Blood test

Blood test at home: home sample collection from Banur

You can get a blood test at home without travelling to the lab. One of our trained phlebotomists comes to your house with a sealed kit, takes the sample, and brings it back to Alpha Laboratory in Banur for testing. The report reaches you as a PDF on WhatsApp, and a printed copy is kept ready at the lab.

Phlebotomist home visit

This helps most when the patient is elderly, bedridden, recovering from fever or simply can't take a morning off work. Call 8872524007 to book a visit.

How home collection works

  1. Book. Call or WhatsApp us with the patient's name, the tests (a photo of the prescription is easiest) and your address with a landmark.
  2. Confirm. We tell you whether fasting is needed and agree a time. For fasting tests we try to come early.
  3. Visit. The phlebotomist arrives, checks the patient's name against the booking, and takes the sample. A blood draw takes about five minutes.
  4. Transport. Tubes are labelled at your door, packed upright in a cool box and brought straight back to the lab.
  5. Report. You get the PDF on WhatsApp once the reporting pathologist has reviewed it. The printed copy can be collected from the lab whenever you're passing.

Areas covered

Home sample collection runs daily in Banur town and the villages around it. Rajpura, Zirakpur and the Mohali side are covered by appointment, so call a day ahead if you can. If you live somewhere in between and aren't sure, ask. Our areas we serve page has distances and directions.

Tests you can do at home

Most blood and urine tests can be collected at home: CBC, sugar tests, HbA1c, thyroid, lipid profile, LFT, KFT, vitamins, iron studies, hormones and fever tests like dengue and typhoid. Search the full test list for anything specific.

A few tests don't suit a home blood test visit:

  • Glucose tolerance test (GTT) needs the patient to stay put for 2 hours or more with timed samples, so it's better done at the lab.
  • Ammonia has to reach the lab on ice within minutes. It's collected at the lab only.
  • Semen analysis has its own rules about timing and is done at the lab.

Health checkup packages can all be collected at home. The Senior Citizen package is the one families book most often this way.

Preparing before the visit

  • Fasting tests: no food, tea or milk for 8 to 12 hours. Water is fine and makes the draw easier.
  • Keep ready: the doctor's prescription, any old reports, and a list of medicines the patient takes.
  • Urine sample: if a urine test is booked, we'll leave a sterile container the evening before or bring one. Collect the first morning sample midstream.
  • Seating: a chair with an armrest, or the patient lying down if they tend to feel faint. Good light helps.
  • Sleeves: loose sleeves that roll up above the elbow.

Our guide on how to prepare for a blood test explains fasting and medicines in more detail.

Collection charges and timing

Home visits start from 7:00 am, Monday to Saturday, with Sunday morning visits by request. Early slots go first, especially for fasting tests, so book the evening before when possible.

We'll confirm any home visit charge when you book. It depends on where you live and how many people are giving samples. Call or WhatsApp for the current details.

For same-day reports on routine tests, the sample needs to reach the lab by about 11 am, which an early home visit usually allows.

Safety and hygiene

  • A new sealed needle and tube set for every patient, opened in front of you.
  • Gloves changed between patients, and the site cleaned with an alcohol swab.
  • Used needles go into a sharps box carried by the phlebotomist. Nothing is left in your bin.
  • Every tube is labelled with the patient's name before it leaves the house.

If anyone in the house has fever or a cough, tell us when you book. It doesn't stop the visit, it just helps us plan.

FAQ

Is home sample collection safe for elderly patients?

Yes. The draw is the same as at the lab, and the patient can stay lying down. Tell us about blood thinners, since pressure is held a little longer afterwards.

How soon can I get a blood test home collection slot?

In Banur and nearby villages, often the same day or the next morning. For Rajpura, Zirakpur and the Mohali side, book a day ahead.

Is a lab test at home as accurate as giving the sample at the lab?

The tests are run on the same machines in the same lab. What matters is correct labelling and getting the sample back quickly, which is why tubes are packed in a cool box.

Do you do lab test home collection on Sundays?

Sunday morning visits are possible by request. Call us on Saturday to check.

How do home testing labs send the report?

We send a PDF on WhatsApp to the number you give us, and keep a printed copy at the lab. Reports go only to the patient or someone they've authorised.

Can more than one person give samples in one visit?

Yes. Tell us the names and tests for each person when you book, and we'll bring enough kits.
