When doctors order these tests
Deficiencies are common in this part of Punjab. Vitamin D runs low because people work indoors and stay covered; B12 is often short in vegetarian families; iron deficiency is widespread in women and children. Doctors usually test when there's tiredness, aches, tingling, hair fall or anaemia on a blood count.
- Vitamin D test for bone pain, weakness, low calcium or osteoporosis
- Vitamin B12 test for numbness, memory complaints, large red cells, or long-term metformin use
- Iron test (iron studies) for anaemia with small, pale red cells
- Ferritin test to check iron stores, the earliest marker of iron deficiency
- Folic acid test, usually with B12, for large red cells or in pregnancy
- Zinc test for slow healing, hair loss, poor growth or chronic diarrhoea
Preparation
The rules differ from test to test, which surprises many people. Vitamin D and ferritin don't need fasting. Iron studies need a morning sample after an overnight fast, because serum iron falls through the day. B12 and folate are best fasting too. Zinc needs a fasting morning sample and a special metal-free tube, so call ahead.
Supplements matter. Tell us when you last took vitamin D sachets, B12 tablets or injections, iron or zinc, so the result is read correctly. Keep taking prescribed medicines unless your doctor says otherwise. Questions about a slip with several tests? Ring 8872524007.
Packages that include them
Vitamin D, B12 and iron studies are part of our Full Body Checkup, and the Women's Health package adds them to a blood count and thyroid profile. If you need only one or two, they can be booked individually.
FAQ
Which vitamin tests need fasting?
Iron studies, folate, B12 and zinc are best done fasting in the morning. Vitamin D and ferritin don't need fasting.
Can several vitamin tests be done from one blood sample?
Usually yes. Vitamin D, B12, folate and ferritin can often share one serum tube, though zinc needs its own special tube.
How soon will my vitamin reports be ready?
Most are ready the same day or next day. Zinc usually takes 1–3 working days; we'll tell you the date when you book.
Should I test again after taking supplements?
Doctors commonly recheck after about three months. Ask your doctor when a repeat is useful for you.
